White mineral oils are highly refined mineral oils, and are composed of saturated aliphatic and alicyclic nonpolar hydrocarbons. They are odorless, tasteless, colorless, hydrophobic, and donot change their color over time. The oil is biologically and chemically stable, and doesnot support pathogenic bacterial growth, which makes it the standard choice of oil in most industries.
Fully Refined Paraffin Wax is the most commonly used commercial wax. In industrial applications, it is often useful to modify the crystal properties of the paraffin wax, typically by adding branching to the existing carbon backbone chain. The modification is usually done with additives, such as EVA copolymers, microcrystalline wax, or forms of polyethylene. The branched properties result in a modified paraffin with a higher viscosity, smaller crystalline structure, and modified functional properties. Pure paraffin wax is rarely used for carving original models for casting metal and other materials in the lost wax process, as it is relatively brittle at room temperature and presents the risks of chipping and breakage when worked.
Semi-refined paraffin waxes contain >1.5% oil content melting point: 60-64 deg C compared to fully refined paraffin which typically contains >0.5% oil content melting point: 60-64 deg C. The oil content varies as per the quality of the wax which could go up to 5-7% oil content. Semi Refined Paraffin waxes are inert, insoluble in water and alcohol, and only slightly soluble in absolute alcohol. Polishes, Tires and rubber products, Carbon paper, crayons, pencils, etc.

Ceresin is a waxy mixture of hydrocarbons obtained by purification of ozokerite, a naturally occurring mineral wax. It is not a vegetable wax, but more closely related to paraffin wax (petroleum wax).Market grades are purified Ozokerite obtained from lignite. Ceresin waxes are important in rubber compounding due to their low acid number (less interference with cure) and inert qualities.
Microcrystalline waxes are a type of wax produced by de-oiling petrolatum, as part of the petroleum refining process. They differ from paraffin waxes in that they have poorly defined crystalline structure, darker color, and generally higher viscosity and melting points. Microcrystalline waxes are moisture free and range in color from a white to a brown, depending on the degree of refinement. Highly refined Micros are white. Microcrystalline waxes excellent for laminating, coating, or hardening materials.
