Magnesium Hydroxide is an ore used to obtain the element magnesium. It is formed by the synthesis reaction of magnesium from alkaline earth metals (2A) and hydroxide (OH) ion. It is a very strong base and one of the main strong bases frequently used by chemists.
Magnesium hydroxide is used to treat occasional constipation in children and adults on a short-term basis. Magnesium hydroxide is in a class of medications called saline laxatives. It works by causing water to be retained with the stool.
