Lap Joint flanges are used on piping fitted with lapped pipe or with lap joint stub ends. The lap joint flange with the stub end assembly are normally used in systems requiring frequent dismantling for inspection and cleaning and where the ability to swivel flanges and to align bolt holes materially eases the erection of large diameter or unusually stiff piping. These flanges are also used in applications where there is a need to facilitate bolt alignment. These type of flanges are similar to slip-on flanges. The only difference is that it has a curved radius at the bore and face to accommodate a lap joint stub end. They may be used at all pressures and are available in a full size range. These lap joint flanges slip over the pipe, and are not welded. They are otherwise fastened to it. Here the bolting pressure is transferred to the gasket by the pressure of the flange against the back of the pipe lap.

ADVANTAGE OF LAP JOINT FLANGES:
Lap Joint flanges have certain special advantages over other flanges. These are as follows:
Lap Joint flanges have the freedom to swivel around the pipe. This facilitates the lining up of opposing flange bolt holes.
Lack of contact with the fluid inside the pipe leads to the greater durability of these flanges.
In piping systems which corrode or erode quickly, the lap joint flanges may be salvaged for re-use.
The pressure-holding capacity of lap joint flanges is little. But it is better than that of slip-on flanges.
The Lap Joint works as a backing ring on the stub.
The main advantage of lap joint flange is that the bolt holes can be aligned with the matching flange after the welds have been completed.
They allow rotational alignment capability.

This is similar to the slip-on Flange in outline, but the bore is threaded, thus enabling assembly without welding. This obviously limits its application to relatively low pressure piping systems. The Flange may be welded around the joint after assembly, but this is not considered a satisfactory method of increasing its use in pressure applications.

This is similar to a slip-on Flange in outline, but the bore is counter- bored to accept the pipe. The diameter of the remaining bore is the same as the inside diameter of the pipe. The Flange is attached to the pipe by a fillet weld around the hub of the Flange. An optional internal weld may be applied in high stress applications. Its biggest use is in high-pressure systems such as hydraulic and steam lines.

This Flange is designed to be joined to a piping system by butt- welding. It is relatively expensive because of its long neck, but is preferred for high stress applications. The neck transmits stresses to the pipe, reducing stress concentrations at the base of the Flange. The gradual transition of thickness from the base to the neck to the wall thickness at the butt weld provides important reinforcement of the Flange. The bore of the Flange matches the bore of the pipe, reducing turbulence and erosion.

The Flange is slipped over the pipe or tube and welded (usually both inside and outside) to provide strength and to prevent leaks. These flanges are at the low cost end of the scale, and do not require high accuracy when cutting the pipe or tube to length. Ring-Joint gaskets are manufactured in accordance with API -6A, API-17D and ASME B16.20 standards, approved by American Petroleum Institute to PSL 4 Standard, the highest quality rating-We ensure faster delivery with better inventory of regular RTJ's and urgent requirement of non standard or exotic material also can be addressed in the shortest time as we make the gasket from the very base material, all under one roof. Our complete in-house casting and machining facilities enables us to make our own raw ring castings, ensuring fast turnaround and complete commitment to quality at every stage of manufacture.
Our RTJ's can be traced back to the scrap material used and can be ratified to NACE specifications on request. The performance of the gasket is based on the geometrical accuracy, surface finish of the sealing area and the hardness of the gasket material. The softer the gasket than the flange the better will be the sealing. This concept has been well ingrained in the process to make gaskets of hardness as low as 110 BHN in SS316. We make sure that the hardness of the gaskets are 10% below the upper limit specified by API standards. Soft Iron and Low carbon steel are given protective electroplated zinc coating of 10-12 micron thickness. RTJ gaskets material with recommended Max Hardness and identification as specified by API and 16.2 ASME standards are listed along with non standard material, any custom required material also can be taken up to demand.
