Alkyd resin is a resin synthesized from alkyd and polyacid. Due to the side effects such as internal esterification and etherification that occur during the esterification reaction between multivalent alcohols and polyacids, a resin formation reaction with extremely complex structure occurs. The specific gravity of alkyd resin is 2.16-2.24, with a heat resistance temperature of 210. It is opaque and has excellent chemical corrosion resistance. Its main use is as a seasoning and adhesive for coatings.
As a modifier for polymers, tackifying resins are rarely used alone. In most cases, they are used as compounding agents to enhance the adhesion of polymers, improve initial tackiness, and reduce viscosity during operation or processing. Its application fields include hot melt adhesives, pressure-sensitive adhesives, coatings, inks, rubber complexes, and hydrocarbon modifiers, etc. It can be seen that most of the applications of tackifying resins are combined with rubber, so tackifying resins can also be discussed as tackifying agents for rubber. The only slight difference is that in the rubber products or tire industry, the usage of tackifying resins as compounding agents is much lower than that in industries such as adhesives.
