Crackle glass is a laminated product achieved by capturing fractured glass between two sheets of solid glass. The two on the outside act as a shield for the third piece in the middle. First, we laminate the three pieces together. Then we use a spring-loaded punch to tap the middle pane of toughened or tempered glass, which causes it to "explode". The explosion basically shatters the glass which is then held in place by the two outer sheets of glass. The result looks somewhat like broken glass, but is in effect a very strong wall of glass. What makes crackle glass exciting is that no two pieces are exactly the same. In other words every piece of crackle glass is unique. Various glass and laminate types can be combined with the crackle look to create an endless array of effects.
