Urea is one of the most concentrated nitrogenous fertilizers because of its high nitrogen content and ease of conversion to ammonia in the soil. It's a low-cost substance that's used in mixed fertilizers as well as applied directly to the soil or sprayed on foliage. It produces methylene urea fertilizers with formaldehyde, which release nitrogen slowly, continuously, and consistently, allowing for a full year's supply to be applied at once. Although urea nitrogen is in a nonprotein form, it can be used by ruminant animals (cattle, sheep), and it can be used to meet a considerable portion of these animals' protein requirements.
