Application Nickel plating is used in various alloys such as new silver, Chinese silver, German silver; for coins, electronic boards, storage batteries; magnets, lightning rod tips, electrical contacts and electrodes, spark plugs, mechanical parts; catalysts for the hydrogenation of oils and other organic substances. The resulting active form of nickel is treated with carbon monoxide to obtain volatile nickel carbonyl [Ni (CO) 4]. The reaction of the latter is reversible. Heating produces pure nickel and carbon monoxide. Overview Nickel is a slightly yellowish silvery-white metal, hard, easy to polish, magnetic (not as good as iron and cobalt) and good plasticity. Density 8.902g/cm3, melting point 1453 �° C, boiling point 2732 �° C. The chemical properties are relatively active. It has good corrosion resistance, is difficult to oxidize in air at room temperature, is not easy to react with concentrated nitric acid, and can resist alkali corrosion.
