BENTONITE CLAY Product Description :
Bentonite is a clay from the Smectite group that mainly consists of montmorillonite which is a composed and plastic clay by nature. It is obtained as a result of volcanic eruption, the ash that evokes out and alters to form a bentonite clay. The clay got its name from a knight as it was shipped in the name of Taylorite in the year 1888. In the previous years, its use and application was not known much to the people; though the production made was few tons a year. But with the progressing time, bentonite is applicable to many of the industries type and therefore its production has now jumped to some million tons a year. One may either find a sodium or calcium compound in bentonite that can be widely used by industries.
Bentonite can be called as a clay in general as it actually a dirt but with wider applications in industries and useful to common people. The clay is mined and powdered to form a light brown clay which is actually obtained as a result of volcanic eruption. One will mainly find two different kinds of clay: Industrial and food grade. Chemically bentonite is either Sodium Bentonite or Calcium Bentonite. The clay also comes with some other minerals in trace amounts and they are present in the clay in different proportions.
Sodium bentonite has an external use only because of its property of absorption. It has capacity to absorb much more than required and it is accidentally swallowed then it can lead to swelling in the stomach or intestine. The clay sodium bentonite is mainly used for industrial purpose only and in case of application on the body, it is strictly used externally. On the contrary, calcium bentonite does not swell much therefore it can be consumed by people. It is this bentonite that people use for their intake which we call it as food grade.

Bentonite usually forms from weathering of volcanic ash, most often in the presence of water. Bentonite is an absorbent aluminium phyllosilicate clay consisting mostly of montmorillonite. The different types of bentonite are each named after the respective dominant element, such as potassium (K), sodium (Na), calcium (Ca), and aluminium (Al). For industrial purposes, two main classes of bentonite exist: sodium and calcium bentonite.
The chemical formula of Bentonite is Al2H2Na2O13Si4 (Sodium) and Al2H2O12Si4 (Calcium)
Bentonite is a high swelling clay mineral whose name was derived from the location of the first commercial deposits mined at fort benton, wyoming u. S. A. Mineralogically, bentonite mainly consists of montmorillonite in combination with various mineral impurities such as feldspars, calcite, silica, etc. Montmorillonite belongs to the smectite group of clays which also include similar behaving minerals such as beidellite, saponite and hectorite.
Geologically bentonites are mainly of volcanic origin, the majority of commercial deposits were formed by the hydrolysis or metamorphism of volcanic rock or ash and are almostly found in everywhere in world.
The structure of montmorillonite is fundamentally a three layer structure with an octahedral aluminium hydroxyl sheet sandwiched between two layers of silicon- oxygen tetrahedra. However, the aluminium atoms are partially replaced by the substitution of either magnesium or iron atoms, thereby creating a charge deficiency within the unit structure. This results in a small negative charge on the basal plane of silica tetrahedra which is balanced by absorption of exchangeable cations between adjacent platelets. In natural montmorillonite, these cations are usually calcium, sodium or magnesium according to the formations of bentonite.

The foundry-grade bentonite powder is used as a bonding material in the preparation of moulding sand for the production of iron, steel, and non-ferrous casting. Sodium Bentonite is the preferred binding agent for use in the bonding of metals and foundry sands, although calcium Bentonite enhances foundry sandâ??s flow ability and figures in the manufacture of nonferrous mouldings.
Drilling Grade (API Grades, OCMA)
Drilling-grade bentonite is a naturally occurring clay containing the clay minerals of smectite. It can also contain accessory minerals, such as quartz, mica, feldspar, and calcite. The Drilling Grade Bentonite Powder is used as a mud constituent for oil and water well drilling. Its roles are mainly to seal the borehole walls, remove drill cuttings, and lubricate the cutting head. Our Drilling Grade Bentonite Powder has high swelling and good colloidal nature, which can increase the viscosity of suspension in the drilling mud and also can increase the lubrication of drilling, as well as for the rig-freeing agent.
Piling Grade
Bentonite slurry is one of the most common excavation fluid used in constructing diaphragm walls. The gel strength and viscosity properties of the bentonite clay allow for cutting suspension and removal. Piling Grade Bentonite Powder is used traditionally as a support and lubricant agent in walls and foundations, tunnelling, and horizontal drilling. Viscosity and plasticity play a very important role. Bentonite slurry walls are used in construction, where the slurry wall is a trench filled with a thick colloidal mixture of Bentonite and water.
Cattle Feed Grade
Our Feed Grade Bentonite is Natural & selected from affluent Mines of Kutch. This Bentonite is used as an animal feed supplement, as a palletizing aid in the production of feed pallets, as well as a flow ability aid. It slows the passage of feed through the digestive system increasing the uptake of nutrients. Bentonite has an affinity for some of the active elements of toxin products formed by bacteria in the digestive tract, and its application in feed allows more rapid weight gain of livestock.
Bentonite for Drilling mud and Civil engineering Shape:white powder and natural particles The products is suitable for the lubrication of drilling engineering, bridge, construction engineering pile foundation, diaphragm wall, subway, tunnel, wall mud and impervious materials such as underground engineering, reservoir dam foundation, etc.
