Acacia Catechu is also known by the English names Black cutch, Cutch tree, Catechu and come from the family Mimosacaae. With the oil extracted from the bark part of the tree, the extract has properties that are astringent, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial. Further, it also has antioxidant activities and are also used for treating ailments related to diarrhea, dysentery, high blood pressure, leucorrhoea, leprosy, colitis, cough, gastritis, bronchitis, toothache, sore throat and mouth infections.
Further, it also has in it properties that are Anti-inflammatory, Antifungal. It also helps in stopping nose bleeding, uterine hemorrhage, leucorrhoea and gonorrhea. It also provides an excellent remedy in relaxation of uvula and simple pharyngitis and also has hepatoprotective property found in heartwood.

Medium sized thorny deciduous tree grows up to 13 meters in height. Leaves bipinnately compound, leaflets 30-50 paired, main rachis pubescent, with large conspicuous gland near the middle of the rachis. Flowers pale yellow, sessile, found in axillary spikes. Fruits flat brown pods, with triangular beak at the apex, shiny, narrowed at base.
