APPLICATIONS
The primary purpose of most washers isto evenly distribute the load of the threaded fastener with which they are used. Threaded fasteners stress the material in which they are driven. Driving a screw into wood, for example, may cause the wood to crack around the surface. Most notably, washersprotect the surface from damage during installation. They distribute the pressure and prevent the fastener from moving or corroding
APPLICATIONS
Belleville Washers are often used to solvevibration, thermal expansion, relaxation andbolt creep problems. Belleville washersare typically used in conditions of highcurrent loading or cycling. They are used toabsorb vibration and can maintain pre-load inbolted joints, indicating correct pre-loadbased on the gap between adjacent washers.
They can also help with â??bolt creepâ?? or stressrelaxation between a bolt and washer
APPLICATIONS
The spherical washer, used in combinationwith the conical seat, guarantees a safelocking function on non-parallel bearingsurfaces â?? when the hole and bolt are notperfectly aligned. Working together, thespherical washer and conical seatcompensate each other to a maximum of 3degrees.
Spring washers, which have axial flexibility and are usedto prevent fastening or loosening due to vibrations. Locking washers, which prevent fastening or loosening bypreventing unscrewing rotation of the fastening device;locking washers are usually also spring washers.
Spring washers should be used on the nut side of thefastener. If an additional washer is required to spreadthe load (as in our image above) it should be usedbetween the spring washer and the mounting surface.
APPLICATIONS
Split washers can prevent bolts fromloosening due to vibrations. As a machineor piece of equipment vibrates, the split
washer will push back into it. Split washersare ideal for applications involvingvibrations because they prevent the boltswith which they are used from loosening
APPLICATIONS
A shoulder washer insulates a screw, rivet,
or wire from an assembly or can beinserted into a housing to provide abearing surface for rotary applications. The flange on the shoulder washer is usedto positively locate the bushing when it isinstalled or to provide a thrust bearingsurface.
APPLICATIONS
An external tooth lock washer has teeththat extend radially outward to bite into thebearing surface. Like internal tooth lockwashers, they are designed to prevent anut or bolt head from loosening with thestrut action of the teeth.
