Molasses is a viscous substance resulting from refining sugarcane or sugar beets into sugar. Molasses varies in the amount of sugar, method of extraction and age of the plant. Sugarcane molasses is primarily used to sweeten and flavor foods. Molasses is a major constituent of fine commercial brown sugar
Molasses syrup is separated from sugar crystals by means of centrifuging. Separation from the sugar crystals occurs repeatedly during the manufacturing process, resulting in several different grades of molasses; that obtained from the first extraction contains more sugar, tastes sweeter, and is lighter in colour than molasses obtained at the second or third extractions. The third and final extraction yields blackstrap molasses, a heavy, viscous, dark-coloured product that has had all the sugar removed from it that can be separated practically by ordinary crystallization.

Due to its natural character, the sugar cane wax is perfectly suitable for sustainable formulations. In coatings (also powder coatings), it improves scratch resistance and slips. Additionally, it provides a matting effect. In Printing inks it is used as a processing aid, scratch resistance will be improved as well. In plastics, PVC, and Masterbatch the sugar cane wax works as an internal and external lubricant. This wax is a natural retarding agent for fertilizers. In hot melts, the open time can be adjusted and there is no stringing.

In printing inks, the natural wax impresses with its excellent rub resistance, scratch resistance, and abrasion resistance. Compared with other waxes, the same level of abrasion resistance can be generated with a reduced application quantity.
