Chestnut honey is a real treasure trove of rare substances needed by the human body. Of all the Slovenian honeys it is the richest with pollen, which is reflected by the extremely bitter taste. It can originate from flowers or manna; that is why it has many shades of brown. It has a beneficial effect on the gastrointestinal tract, liver and helps with insomnia. Chestnut honey should, under supervision of a physician, also be consumed by some diabetics.
Source of honey is nectar, which bees gather on meadow plants and other flowers. The colour of honey ranges from pale yellow to dark brown. The flavour and aroma can be very different, usually strong and pronounced, depending on what kind of flowers the most nectar has been accumulated. Honey crystallizes fast. Flower honey strengthens blood vessels and heart.
