Coconuts are graded based on size, weight, moisture content, and husk condition to meet international quality standards. Here are the common grading standards for export:
1. Tender Coconut (Green Coconut) Grades
Premium Grade: Large size, uniform shape, bright green color, high water content (400ml+).
Standard Grade: Medium size, slightly uneven shape, good water content (300-400ml).
Commercial Grade: Smaller size, mixed color, moderate water content (200-300ml).
2. Mature Coconut (Brown/Semi-Husked) Grades
Grade A (Premium Quality):
Size: 12-14 cm diameter
Weight: 600g - 750g
Thick, white kernel (flesh), minimal husk, high oil content
Ideal for oil extraction, food processing
Grade B (Standard Quality):
Size: 10-12 cm diameter
Weight: 450g - 600g
Medium kernel thickness, suitable for domestic and international markets
Grade C (Commercial Quality):
Size: Below 10 cm
Weight: 350g - 450g
Thin kernel, mainly used for industrial purposes (coir, animal feed)
3. Copra (Dried Coconut) Grades
Milling Copra: High oil content, used for coconut oil extraction.
Edible Copra: Clean, dried coconut flesh used in food and confectionery.
4. Desiccated Coconut Grades
Fine Grade: Very small, uniform coconut flakes, used in baking and confectionery.
Medium Grade: Slightly larger granules, commonly used in cooking.
5. Coconut Shell & By-Product Grades
Coconut Shell (Hardwood Quality): Used for activated carbon and handicrafts.
Coconut Husk: Used for coir fiber production.
