There is a suggestion that the Damask roses come from a cross between R. gallica (R. of Gallia) and R. phhenicia (R. in Phoenician). Inner Damask roses the side of the East. Western roses came through Asia Minor, Syria and the countries in the Middle East. Most likely, after their return from another campaign in Asia, the Crusaders took these roses and brought them to Europe in 1254. This is when the the name Damask Rose appeared a rose brought from Damascus. We do not know the details of this mysterious story, it is obscured by fog.
