Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), with the chemical formula (C10H8O4) n, is synthesized by exchanging dimethyl terephthalate with ethylene glycol ester or esterification of terephthalic acid with ethylene glycol, followed by condensation reaction to obtain dihydroxyethyl terephthalate.
