Composite Insulator Classification
According to different installation methods, insulators can be divided into suspension insulators and post insulators; according to the different insulating materials used, they can be divided into porcelain insulators, glass insulators and composite insulators (also called composite insulators). according to different voltage levels, they can be divided into Low-voltage insulators and high-voltage insulators. according to the different environmental conditions used, the pollution-resistant insulators used in polluted areas are derived; according to the different types of voltages, DC insulators are derived. there are also various special-purpose insulators, such as insulating crossarms, Semiconductor glaze insulators and tension insulators for power distribution, spool insulators and wiring insulators, etc. In addition, according to the different breakdown possibilities of insulators, it can be divided into A-type, non-breakable insulators and B-type instant-breakable insulators.

Composite insulator consists of three parts:

Fiberglass core: ECR
End fitting: Hot-dip galvanized forged steel and casting steel.
Silicone rubber: HTV

VOLTAGE RATING & STRENGTH RANGE
11kV up to 500kV. 40kN up to 300kN long rod type, 4kN up to 20kN post type.

APPLICATION
Long rod insulators are used for suspension and tension towers for high voltage grids and railway grids. Composite post insulators are used for disconnector, switchgear and substation works. Tronco Electric can also make the design and supply the insulator strings.

Toughened glass disc insulator 40kN up to 300kN, 11kV up to 765kV.

glass insulators comply with IEC60383.

STRUCTURE
Glass insulator consists of cast-iron cap, toughened glass body and pin which are agglutinated together by cement into an integrated piece. Cylindrical head has been adopted for insulators, which is the most advanced structure in the world with superiorities such as less dimension, lighter wieght, higher strength and longer creepage distance which can save metallic materials and reduce transmission line cost.

Most High-voltage lines use ball & socket type toughened glass insulator, which is also called cap & pin. Cross-section is as below. Tongue & Clevis assembly is also used for glass disc insulator.

APPLICATION
Glass insulators are applied in HV and Extra HV transmission lines as dielectric and use for suspending conductors.

Until 2009, more than 4 million taiguang composite insulators are in service throughout the country and abroad.
