Inconel 600 is a nickelbase alloy with excellent carburization, and good oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures.
The alloy is widely used in the heat treating industry.
600 alloy has useful resistance to dry Cl2 and HCl gases at moderately elevated temperatures.
Alloy 600 is not suggested for use at red heat when sulfur is present due to elevated nickel quantities.

Grades 200 and 201 nickel are normally preferred for handling concentrated, high temperature caustic.
However, when sulfur compounds are present as well, or for ammonium hydroxide service,
600 alloy is suggested. 600 alloy is subject to stress corrosion cracking in hot, concentrated caustic alkalies.
To avoid stress corrosion cracking, the 600 alloy fabrication should be fully stress relieved prior to use.
A minimum treatment of 1650°F for 1 hour is suggested, but 1800-1850°F for 1 hour preferred.

Monel 400 (UNS N04400, NCu30) The structure of Monel 400 alloy is a high-strength single-phase solid solution. It is a corrosion-resistant alloy with the largest amount, the widest application and excellent comprehensive performance. This alloy has excellent corrosion resistance in hydrofluoric acid and fluorine gas medium, and also has excellent corrosion resistance to hot concentrated lye. At the same time, it is also resistant to corrosion by neutral solutions, water, sea water, atmosphere, organic compounds, etc. An important feature of this alloy is that it generally does not produce stress corrosion cracks and has good cutting performance.
The alloy has excellent corrosion resistance in fluorine gas, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrofluoric acid and their derivatives. At the same time, it is more corrosion resistant than copper-based alloys in seawater.
â?² Acid medium: M400 is corrosion-resistant in sulfuric acid with a concentration of less than 85%. M400 is one of the very few important materials in durable hydrofluoric acid.
â?² Water corrosion: M400 alloy not only has excellent corrosion resistance under most water corrosion conditions, but also pitting corrosion and stress corrosion are rarely found, and the corrosion rate is less than 0.25mm/a.

Heating produces pure nickel and carbon monoxide. Overview Nickel is a slightly yellowish silvery-white metal, hard, easy to polish, magnetic (not as good as iron and cobalt) and good plasticity. Density 8.902g/cm3, melting point 1453 �° C, boiling point 2732 �° C. The chemical properties are relatively active. It has good corrosion resistance, is difficult to oxidize in air at room temperature, is not easy to react with concentrated nitric acid, and can resist alkali corrosion. Fine nickel wire is flammable, reacts with halogens when heated, and slowly dissolves in dilute acid. It can absorb a considerable amount of hydrogen.
