Isophorone, also known as "1,1,3-trimethylcyclohexenone", scientific name 3,5,5-trimethyl-2-cyclohexene-1-one, is a six membered cyclic alpha, beta unsaturated ketone with the chemical formula C9H14O. It is a colorless to yellow volatile liquid with a characteristic odor (camphor/mint fragrance). Naturally found in cranberries. Insoluble in water, soluble in most organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, acetone, etc. The visible light transforms into a dimer. Oxidized to 4,4,6-trimethyl-1,2-cyclohexanedione in the air.
