What is a Cree LED?
What is the difference between Cree and COB LED lights? Cree LEDs are simply LED lights that utilize Cree chips. There are many reasons why the lighting community praises the chips used by Cree. However, the most common reasons include high performance output, longevity and stability. You can look at the chips to see if they are Cree.

Cree chips use square chips that are divided into rectangles. cree chips can provide 370 lumens of light to your LED, which is another reason why these chips are so popular. You'll find Cree chips in a number of different places, such as emergency lights, portable lighting, automotive manufacturers, and outdoor and indoor lighting. This means that Cree LEDs are LEDs that use Cree chips.

What is a COB LED?
COB LEDs are chip-on-board LEDs. these LEDs have multiple diodes, each with its own chip to control it. However, the diodes and chips are placed close together on a panel, thus producing a single light source. The best way to think about this is in terms of Light Bright. Remember those toys we played with as kids? When you placed them on a panel, their colored pegs would light up. You can place a colored peg on the panel and get a small light source. Insert multiple pegs next to each other and you will get a piece of light.

To understand the difference between Cree and COB LED lights, we should understand the difference between a chip and a panel. The chip powers and controls the LED diode. Think of a diode as a small light bulb. A COB LED has many diodes in a panel, creating a single diode that looks much larger.

This large size allows the COB LED to produce light that covers a wide area. On the other hand, the chip controls the diode, tells it how brightly it emits light, and is also able to change the color (if the diode is able to change color). The question is, if COB LEDs have chips, and Cree is the chip brand, can't you just have Cree COB LEDs? The short answer is yes.
