1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane (R134A) is a widely used refrigerant in a variety of applications due to its non-flammable nature and environmental advantages over older refrigerants like R-12. Key uses include:

Refrigeration and Air Conditioning: Primarily used in automotive air conditioning systems and domestic refrigerators, R134A was introduced in the early 1990s as a replacement for ozone-depleting R-12.

Commercial and Industrial Refrigeration: R134A is employed in medium- and high-temperature refrigeration, including supermarket display cases, chillers, and refrigerated transport.

Aerosol Propellant: It serves as a propellant in aerosol products, such as gas dusters ("canned air") and pharmaceutical delivery systems like inhalers (e.g., bronchodilators).

Plumbing: It is used in plumbing pipe freeze kits to temporarily freeze water in pipes during repairs.

Computer Cooling: In specialized overclocking scenarios, R134A has been used to cool processors to prevent overheating during extreme performance tasks.
