During Hindalco's copper production process, by-products such as sulphuric acid and copper slag are formed. Sulphuric acid is partly converted into phosphoric acid, which is then made to react with ammonia to make di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) fertiliser. During the process of making phosphoric acid, phosphogypsum and hydrofluosilicic acid (HFA) are formed. HFA is partly utilised to make aluminium fluoride, and rest is sold in the market.

Sulphuric acid
Hindalco produces sulphuric acid of IS 266/1993 technical grade. The sulphuric acid plants use the double contact double absorption (DCDA) process, and are designed by Monsanto Envirochem (USA).

Phosphoric acid
Hindalco's phosphoric acid plant is based on the Prayon Mark IV dihydrate technology provided by SNC Lavalin (Belgium).

Phosphogypsum
Phosphogypsum is a by-product of Hindalco's phosphoric acid plant.

Copper slag (iron silicate)
Copper slag is produced during the smelting process at Hindalco's copper smelter located at Dahej.

Aluminium fluoride
Hindalco produces aluminium fluoride by reacting HFA (a by-product of the phosphoric acid plant) with aluminium hydroxide (from Hindalco's aluminium manufacturing facilities).

Aluminium Silicate has the chemical formula Al2SiO3 . It has a vitreous lustre, a refractive index of 1.56, a MOHS hardness of 1-2, and an orthorhombic crystallography with a pH Value 8 â?? 10 and Bulk Density varies from 0.2 - 0.4 gm/cc. It is remarkable for its use as filler and anti-settling agent in paint and as semi reinforcing agent in rubber. It can be manufactured either by precipitation or by processing of the naturally occuring Aluminium Silicate minerals. The precipitated variety gives better properties due to smaller particle sizes and higher white strength value.

Magnesium Aluminium Silicate is an off-white powder used in the pharmaceutical
manufacturing process as an absorbent and anticaking agent. It is a naturally occurring
mineral derived from refined and purified clay that is used primarily as a thickener in cosmetics and beauty products. The viscosity of aqueous dispersions may be greatly increased by combination with other suspending agents.

In the most general terms colloidal silica is a dispersion of amorphous silicon dioxide (silica) particles in water. These amorphous silica particles are produced by
polymerizing silica nuclei from silicate solutions under alkaline conditions to form nanometer sized silica sols with high surface area. A charge is then induced on the
silica nanoparticle surface that allows the silica particles to repel one another and form a stable dispersion, or colloid.

Colloidal Silica is readily soluble in water in all proportions. It has a low viscosity, which is comparable to that of water. The individual silica particles get
thoroughly dispersed in water.

Ubiquitous products are characterized by their exceptionally low viscosity and excellent stability.

Ubiquitous manufactures various brands of Colloidal Silica which are tailor-made for applications ranging from investment casting to catalysts manufacturing

Grades
Colloidal Silica is available in many grades.
The concentration of Silica varies from 20 wt% to 50 wt%.
The particle size range produced by Ubiquitous is between 7-35 nanometers.

Aluminium silicate is a type of fibrous material made of aluminium oxide and silicon dioxide, (such materials are also called aluminosilicate fibres). These are glassy solid solutions rather than chemical compounds. The compositions are often described in terms of % weight of alumina, Al2O3 and silica, SiO2.
