Hastelloy S is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten alloy with excellent corrosion resistance in a wide range of aggressive media. It was developed by Haynes International, Inc. and is specifically designed for use in highly oxidizing environments.
Hastelloy S offers superior resistance to oxidizing and reducing environments, including hot sulfuric acid, sulfurous acid compounds, and hydrogen chloride gas. It also exhibits excellent resistance to localized corrosion, such as pitting and crevice corrosion, and has good resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
Due to its exceptional corrosion resistance, Hastelloy S is widely used in the chemical processing industry, especially for applications involving highly corrosive acids, such as sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid. It is also used in pollution control equipment and in the production of pulp and paper.
