Mastaki (Pistacia lentiscus) is a plant resin from the mastic tree found in the Mediterranean. It is also known as Mastic gum and Tears of Chios since it was originally produced on the Greek island of Chios. In India, Mastaki is known as Mastic Gum, Mastagi Roomi and Mastagi Rumi.

The source Myrrh Resin is the thorny shrubs of Commiphora myrrha trees that grow wildly and naturally in Somalia, Ethiopia, and Kenya. The tree oozes a pale yellow-white viscous liquid from natural cracks in the bark or from fissures or when cut. The exudate hardens into a reddish-brown mass when air dried, and often contains white patches.

Traditionally Myrrh has been used extensively as antiseptic, anti-parasitic, and it has also been reported to treat headache, throat ailments, paralysis, indigestion Myrrh is widely used in religious ceremonies.

The styrax benzoin tree is evergreen, and grows naturally in northern sumatra, indonesia.

The tree yields an almond shaped solid gum resin called benzoin gum sumatra (cas number: 9000-05-9), collected from incisions made into the trunk of the tree.
The gum resin is of high quality and has many commercial uses.

Benzoin gum in commercial applications

Gum benzoin sumatra is used as raw material in a variety of industries.

In perfumery in particular, benzoin is widely used as a fixative, with its warm scent able to blend with other fragrances, and its ability to slow the dispersion of essential oils and other fragrance materials into the air.

In pharmacy, sumatran benzoin is used for its excellent antiseptic, astringent and expectorant properties.
