Oligopeptide-10 has potent activity against Propionibacterium acnes causing rapid cell death. It binds to negatively charged surface elements (lipoteichoic acids) of bacteria enabling access to its primary target, the cytoplasmic membrane which causes a lethal osmotic imbalance within the bacteria.

Oligopeptide-10 (oligopeptide-10)-is an antibacterial peptide used to treat acne symptoms.
Research data showed that the peptide showed excellent activity against P-acne bacteria alone, but it was found to be more effective in combination with low levels of salicylic acid. Salicylic acid can open the pores to allow oxygen to enter, while allowing oligopeptide-10 to enter the pores for maximum performance without irritation. The 0.5% combination of oligopeptide 10 and 0.5% salicylic acid showed a 40% reduction in acne, irritation, pustules and papules after 28 days.
