Sodium fluoride (NaF) is a chemical compound and medication.As a medication it is primarily used to prevent tooth decay in children older than 6 months in areas where the drinking water is low in fluoride. Sodium fluoride is used as a liquid, pill, or paste by mouth with this use being known as fluoride therapy.
Normal doses may occasionally result in white marks on the teeth. Excessive doses can result in brown or yellow coloring of the teeth. It is believed to work mostly through direct contact with the teeth.Sodium fluoride is a colorless solid. It is most often made by mixing fluorosilicic acid with sodium hydroxide.

[Application] Sodium fluoride is mainly used to adjust the molecular ratio in the electrolytic aluminum industry.
Start at the beginning of electrolytic cell, carbon lining selective absorption of sodium fluoride,
the electrolyte molecular ratio declined sharply, with the adjustment of more than sodium fluoride molecules; in addition, slots with molecular synthesis of cryolite ratio is too low, to adjust to the requirements of the use of molecular ratio, also need a large amount of sodium fluoride mixture.
In addition, it is also widely used in the coating industry as phosphating accelerators, agricultural pesticides, sealing materials, preservatives and other fields.

Colorless cubic or tetragonal crystals. Sensitive to moisture. Solubility in water (g/ 100mL) : 4 at 15C, 4.3 at 25C, 5 at 100C, insoluble in ethanol. Partial hydrolysis of aqueous solution shows an alkaline reaction. The newly prepared saturated solution has a pH of 7.4. Its aqueous solution can make the glass hairy, but its dry crystals or powders can be stored in glass bottles

Application and Uses :

It is used as insecticide in agriculture, timber preservative, slagging medium of metallurgy, analyzing reagent.

It is also used in welding flux of machine planer tool, sterilization of fermentation equipment, and used to manufacture fluorin e compounds.
