Vinyl acetate is an important ester of vinyl alcohol, which can find applications in the production of homo and copolymer dispersions. The production of vinyl acetate involves the addition of acetic acid to acetylene in the gas phase in the presence of zinc acetate/charcoal as catalyst.

Application

Vinyl acetate may be used as an analytical reference standard for the quantification of the analyte in water samples using liquid chromatography technique.

It is mainly used as a raw material for the manufacture of synthetic fiber Vinylon, and is also a component of a variety of copolymer resins such as EVA. Polyvinyl acetate derivatives and polyvinyl alcohol, the polymers of vinyl acetate, are widely used as bonding agents, architectural coatings, textile sizing and finishing agents, paper reinforcing agents, and in the manufacture of safety glass.

May polymerize if heated or contaminated.
If polymerization occurs inside a container, the container may violently rupture.
Used to make adhesives, paints, and plastics.

Application
Vinyl Acetate is used to make other industrial chemicals.

They are also used to make paints, textiles, and paper.
