Calcium chloride is a chemical substance composed of Cl and Ca elements, with the chemical formula CaCl2, slightly bitter. It is a typical ionic halide, which is white, hard fragments or particles at room temperature. Its common applications include saline water used in refrigeration equipment, road ice melting agents, and desiccants.
Calcium chloride is used in salt water, road deicing agents, and desiccants used in refrigeration equipment. Due to its tendency to absorb water and deliquescence in the air, anhydrous calcium chloride should be stored in a sealed container. Calcium chloride and its hydrates and solutions have important application value in various fields such as food manufacturing, building materials, medicine, and biology.
Anhydrous calcium chloride is a commonly used dehydrating agent and drying agent in industrial production and laboratories (but cannot dry ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, and alcohol). It is mainly used for drying gases, petroleum, organic solvents, etc. Inorganic industry uses it as a raw material for making metallic calcium and various calcium salts. Calcium chloride is also used as a sizing agent, water purifier, antifreeze agent, food preservative, and road cleaning agent for textiles.
