Fluoroplastic Products And Their Properties
Fluoroplastic. Fluoroplastic Products
Fluoroplastic is a synthetic polymer that contains fluorine and is white. It is used in many industries due to its unique properties. Fluoroplastic is also called Teflon, polytetrafluoroethylene, fluoroplastic-4, PTFE, fluoropolymer.
The first to discover Teflon was the American scientist Roy Plunkett in 1938 - he observed the polymerization of gaseous tetrafluoroethylene, its transformation into a solid substance (resembling paraffin). This material has distinctive properties and was immediately sent for patenting.
In the USSR, Teflon appeared during the Second World War in the production of tanks that were sent from America under Lend-Lease. Soviet designers were impressed by the design of the tank turret - its rotation was carried out not with the help of grease, but with a fluoroplastic gasket .
Technical characteristics of fluoroplastic F 4
Some chemical and physical properties of fluoroplastic have made the material popular: its technical characteristics surpass those of other similar materials:
high dielectric characteristics and resistance to electric arc;
high electrical strength;
resistance to chemicals;
low water absorption rates;
low coefficient of friction;
low level of adhesion;
biological inertness;
the ability to retain its properties in a temperature range."
